Dr. Xi Liu is a Teaching Associate in East Asian Studies at the University of Sheffield's School of Languages, Arts and Societies. Previously, they earned a PhD from the University of Sheffield's School of East Asian Studies, following an MA in Film Studies from University College London and a BA in English and Communication Studies from Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University.
Research Interests
- Screen and media studies, focusing on film aesthetics, sensation, and perception
- Critical theory on gender and queer representations in Chinese cinema
- Exploration of non-representational queer reading and ecoaesthetics
Current Projects
Dr. Liu is advancing two major projects: a book on film perception and affect theory (centered on Chinese yijing philosophy) and an analysis of queer gender roles and childbirth in Chinese cinema.
