Xavier Scruggs

Xavier Scruggs is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Communication at the University of Missouri, within the College of Arts and Science. He focuses on political and family communication, particularly examining racial socialization messages in Black families and their effects on trust in systems like law enforcement and healthcare, as well as mental health management. His research also explores how political conflict can divide family dynamics. Dr. Scruggs is a Ronald E. McNair Scholar and actively contributes to community service, including serving on the Citizen’s Police Review Board and as Vice Chair of the Political Communication Division of the Central States Communication Association.
