Xavier Mariette is a Professor of Rheumatology at Université Paris-Saclay and heads the Immuno-Rheumatology Department at Bicêtre Hospital. He directs the Autoimmunity team at the Immunology of Viral, Autoimmune, Haematological and Bacterial Diseases Laboratory (IMVA-HB) and established the Cancer and Autoimmunity Relationships (CARE) federation in 2019.
He studied at Paris Descartes University (MD, 1977-1987), earned a DEA and PhD in immunology at Saint-Louis Hospital, and specialized in B lymphocytes and autoantibodies. His research focuses on cytokines like BAFF, Sjögren's syndrome, and the bidirectional link between autoimmunity and cancer, with translational work on biotherapies including anti-BAFF antibodies and CAR-T cells.

As chair of the Faculty of Medicine's Scientific Advisory Board at Université Paris-Saclay, he integrates clinical and research efforts. His work leverages patient samples to improve quality of life through clinical trials and laboratory innovation, particularly in eradicating pathogenic B lymphocytes for durable remission in autoimmune conditions.
