Xavier Hernandez-Alias

Xavier Hernandez-Alias is a Collaboratory Professor at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), Barcelona, Spain, and holds concurrent roles as an EMBO Postdoctoral Fellow at the Max-Planck-Institute of Biochemistry (MPIB) and the Chair of Computational Molecular Medicine at Technische Universität München (TUM), Germany. He completed his PhD in Biomedicine (Systems Biology) at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) under Prof. Luis Serrano and Dr. Martin Schaefer (2018–2023), following an M.Sc. in Biology (Systems Biology) from ETH Zürich and a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from the University of Barcelona.

His research focuses on systems biology, genomics, and translational mechanisms. Key areas include codon optimization in human tissues, tRNA modifications, and the role of translational efficiency in viral infection and cancer. His work bridges computational modeling with experimental genomics to understand molecular adaptations in health and disease.

Notable contributions include studies on virus-tissue adaptation, cancer gene regulation, and metabolic vulnerabilities in colorectal cancer. His publications span high-impact journals like Genome Biology, Cell Systems, and PLOS Biology, reflecting interdisciplinary approaches in molecular medicine.
