Xan Burley is an Assistant Professor in Contemporary Dance Practice at the School of Theatre + Dance, University of Florida. She holds an MFA from Smith College and a BA from the University of Michigan. Her work spans choreography, interdisciplinary performance, and dance pedagogy. She collaborates extensively with Alex Springer and interdisciplinary teams, blending dance with engineering, architecture, and learning sciences.

Research Interests: Burley’s research focuses on interdisciplinary choreographic practices, site-responsive performance, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. She explores how dance can inform scientific and technical fields, such as lithium-ion battery research through NSF-funded projects. Her work with Every Body Meeting (EBM) reimagines collaborative processes, creating immersive performances and exhibitions in diverse spaces.
Recent Projects: In 2024, EBM was commissioned for Taipei’s Treasure Hill Artist Village, producing site-specific performances and exhibitions. Their 2025 NSF-funded project with Dr. Megan Butala translates chemical research into embodied learning activities for students.
