Prof. Wouter Stam is a Full Professor of Entrepreneurship at the School of Business and Economics (SBE) of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) and a member of the Amsterdam Business Research Institute (ABRI). He holds a Master's in International Business Studies from Maastricht University and a PhD (cum laude) from VU Amsterdam. His research focuses on entrepreneurial ventures' creation and growth, particularly in emerging industries, exploring strategic dilemmas, social capital, and inequality's impact on entrepreneurship. He has held visiting positions at the Wharton School (UPenn) and RSM Erasmus University.
Stam has received awards including the Karen Legge Prize and Emerald Citations of Excellence Award. He edits Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice and serves on editorial boards of top journals. He teaches entrepreneurship courses across undergraduate, MBA, and PhD programs and contributes to executive education. His research spans topics like refugee entrepreneurs' identity transformation, digital transformation in incumbent firms, and post-disaster entrepreneurship.
