Wouter SCHROEYERS

Professor Wouter SCHROEYERS serves at Hasselt University within the Faculty of Industrial Engineering Sciences, Department of Industrial Engineering Sciences, where he leads the Nuclear Technology Research Group and contributes to the Center for Environmental Sciences. His work bridges nuclear engineering with environmental applications, focusing on practical solutions for radiation protection and sustainable materials management.

His research interests center on Nuclear Engineering, Environmental Monitoring, and Materials Recycling and Valorization, with particular expertise in radiological mapping, nuclear waste immobilization, and NORM management. Current research explores drone-based monitoring systems, advanced cementitious materials for waste containment, and radiotherapy applications.

Professor SCHROEYERS actively supervises eleven doctoral candidates working on diverse nuclear technology applications, including drone-based radiological monitoring, Fe-rich alkali-activated materials for nuclear waste, and calcium fluoride sludge valorization. His leadership extends to chairing multiple examination committees for nuclear technology programs and the Radiation Expert postgraduate degree.

He teaches extensively across nuclear technology curricula, coordinating courses in radiation protection, radiotherapy, radiochemistry, and environmental analysis for both Dutch and English-speaking programs. His teaching spans bachelor's projects, master's theses, and specialized courses in circular environmental technology and machine learning applications.

With 21 documented research projects (many ongoing through 2027), his work demonstrates sustained research productivity in nuclear decommissioning, radiation safety, and sustainable materials development. Current projects include CaF2 sludge recycling, blended education in nuclear decommissioning, and advanced gamma imaging systems for radiological mapping.
