Worth Pugh is the Coordinator of Zoological Collections at the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Alabama. He holds an M.S. in Biology (2013) and a B.S. in Evolution, Ecology, and Environmental Biology (2010) from Appalachian State University. His research focuses on Zoology with specialties in Ichthyology, Herpetology, and Malacology, alongside Conservation Biology and Natural History Collections management.
Key research interests include freshwater biodiversity, particularly darter fish (Etheostoma spp.) and salamanders (Ambystoma spp., Cryptobranchus spp.), along with their ecological requirements and conservation challenges. Recent work emphasizes dietary studies of endangered fish species, predator-prey dynamics in salamanders, and habitat modeling for rare aquatic taxa.
His publications consistently address freshwater ecosystem conservation, invasive species impacts, and taxonomic documentation. Over 15 years, his work has documented species distributions, assessed land-use threats, and developed monitoring protocols for imperiled species like the hellbender and Kanawha darter.
Dr. Pugh collaborates with regional conservation organizations like Southeast Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation. His role as Zoological Collections Coordinator involves managing specimen databases and supporting biodiversity research through curated collections.
