معرفی
Prof. Wojciech Witkowski serves as a full Professor at the Department of Strength of Materials within the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Gdańsk University of Technology. His research bridges structural mechanics with biomedical applications, focusing on computational modeling of biological systems and civil infrastructure safety.
His research interests encompass biomechanics (bone fracture healing, spinal ligament modeling), advanced constitutive modeling of hyperelastic materials, and road safety engineering. Using finite element analysis as his primary methodology, he investigates complex phenomena like tissue mechanoregulation in bone healing, nonlinear deformations in thick structures, and vehicle-barrier collision dynamics. His work consistently integrates experimental validation with numerical simulation.
Recent publications (2023-2025) reveal a strong trend toward interdisciplinary medical applications, particularly in orthopedic biomechanics using 3D-printed scaffolds and ligament modeling, while maintaining his foundational work in structural mechanics and road safety. This dual focus demonstrates exceptional versatility across engineering domains.
Prof. Witkowski leads significant research projects including the OPUS-funded Formulation and numerical implementation of constitutive equations of irreversible deformations in the framework of the nonlinear 6-parameter shell theory (UMO-2015/17/B/ST8/02190, 2016-2021). He also contributes to spinal injury modeling projects as a key collaborator. His work occurs within the Department of Mechanics of Materials and Structures, where he applies computational mechanics to solve critical problems in both biomedical and civil engineering contexts.
