معرفی
Dr. hab. inż. Wojciech Smułek serves as a Professor in the Department of Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry at Poznań University of Technology's Faculty of Chemical Technology. His academic career spans multiple research domains with a focus on environmental biotechnology and bioorganic chemistry. Affiliated with the Institute of Chemical Technology and Engineering, he maintains active research collaborations with institutions including Poznań University of Life Sciences, Slovak Academy of Sciences, West Pomeranian University of Technology, University of Silesia, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, and University of Copenhagen.
Professor Smułek's research interests center on bioorganic chemistry, microbiology, surfactants, environmental biotechnology, and multiphase systems. His work explores bacterial adaptation to hydrocarbons, plant-derived surfactants, and biodegradation mechanisms of environmental pollutants. He investigates how bacterial cell wall modifications affect biodegradation processes and examines the surface-active properties of natural compounds like saponins from Saponaria officinalis. His research has significant implications for environmental remediation, antimicrobial strategies, and sustainable biotechnology applications.
Analysis of his publication record reveals a consistent research trajectory focused on environmental microbiology and bioorganic chemistry. His recent work (2023-2025) increasingly addresses nanoparticle-bacteria interactions, advanced biotransformation strategies for biomass conversion, and innovative approaches to combat antibiotic resistance through natural compounds. The interdisciplinary nature of his research bridges environmental science, microbiology, and chemical engineering, with practical applications in bioremediation, pharmaceutical development, and sustainable materials.
Professor Smułek actively contributes to academic service as Supervisor of the PUT Chemistry Scientific Club and Member of the faculty team for the English language program in Chemical Technology. He serves as a Guest Editor for Materials and Processes journals, demonstrating his standing in the academic community. His professional affiliations include membership in the Polish Society of Microbiologists and the Polish Chemical Society.
In addition to his research, Professor Smułek teaches Fundamentals of Biotechnology (both part-time and full-time programs), Organic Chemistry laboratory classes, and specialized courses in identification and analysis of organic compounds. His academic contributions extend to editing conference proceedings for BioOrg symposia and authoring the popular science book 'Expeditions to the world of biochemistry' (2023).
