Wim Wenders

Wim Wenders is a renowned film director, writer, and photographer, holding professorial roles at The European Graduate School (EGS) and as Professor für Narrativen Film at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts. Born in Düsseldorf in 1945, he studied medicine and philosophy before transitioning to film. After training at Munich’s University of Television and Film, he became a pivotal figure in the New German Cinema movement. His career spans over 50 films, including Palme d’Or-winning *Paris, Texas* (1984) and 3D innovator *Pina* (2011). Wenders is also a prolific author and photographer, exploring themes of memory and space. He co-founded the Filmverlag der Autoren and the Wim Wenders Foundation to preserve his work and support emerging artists.

Education: Dropped out of university studies in medicine and philosophy, later graduating from Munich’s film school in 1970. Key collaborations include cinematographer Robby Müller and writer Peter Handke. His research interests focus on narrative filmmaking, 3D technology’s potential, and the intersection of cinema with visual arts.

His films and documentaries have earned global acclaim, with awards spanning the Palme d’Or, Golden Lion, and multiple Oscar nominations.
