Wilson S Geisler III is a Professor and David Wechsler Regents Chair in Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin, affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts. He directs the Center for Perceptual Systems and is a member of the Institute for Neuroscience and the Biomedical Engineering Program. His research focuses on visual neuroscience, mathematical psychology, and computer vision, exploring topics like visual perception, neurophysiological mechanisms in V1, and computational modeling of perception.
Geisler holds a Ph.D. from Indiana University. His work integrates psychophysics, neurophysiology, and computational methods to address questions about perceptual systems' evolution and efficiency. Current projects include perceptual grouping, visual search in natural scenes, and neural mechanisms underlying visual processing.
His research has led to models explaining human performance in tasks like camouflage detection and visual search, with a focus on optimal observer theory and natural scene statistics. The Tillyer Award (2022) recognizes his contributions to vision science.
Geisler's lab collaborates widely, including with Professors Albrecht and Seidemann on neurophysiological studies. He teaches advanced topics in perceptual systems and contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives in theoretical and computational neuroscience.
