Dr. Wilson Ramirez-Duarte is an Assistant Professor in Environmental Science at the Department of Environmental & Physical Sciences, Faculty of Science, Concordia University of Edmonton. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology (ABVT) and specializes in aquatic toxicology, focusing on the impacts of chemical pollutants on aquatic ecosystems and public health.
- Veterinary degree: University of the Llanos’ School of Veterinary Medicine, Colombia
- PhD: Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of California, Davis
His research explores the use of biomarkers to assess toxicant effects in fish, genomic responses to contaminants like pesticides and pharmaceuticals, and the interplay of biotic and abiotic environmental factors on aquatic organisms. Recent work investigates how chemical pollutants disrupt reproductive barriers and promote hybridization in fish populations.
Dr. Ramirez-Duarte has held postdoctoral positions at the University of California, Davis (School of Veterinary Medicine) and the University of Toronto (Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology), focusing on aquatic toxicology and ecotoxicology.
