Smriti Batoye

Dr. Smriti Batoye is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Quesnel River Research Centre (QRRC) within the Department of Environmental Science at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC). She holds a PhD and MSc from Panjab University, India. Her research focuses on ecotoxicology, particularly the impacts of environmental stressors like climate change on aquatic ecosystems, with a special emphasis on Pacific salmon species' early life stages. She leads initiatives investigating phytoremediation, water quality assessment, and the effects of pollutants on fish physiology.

Key research areas include aquatic toxicology, environmental science, and eco-friendly remediation strategies. Dr. Batoye is currently not accepting graduate students but is available for media inquiries as a subject matter expert. Her work bridges laboratory analyses (e.g., histopathology, SEM studies) with field-based environmental monitoring, addressing both local and global ecological challenges.

Her research has explored pesticide impacts on fish morphology, heavy metal toxicity in aquatic organisms, and the protective roles of bioactive compounds like quercetin and ascorbic acid. She advocates for sustainable solutions to mitigate environmental pollution and its ecosystem-wide effects.
