Willie James Jennings is the Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Systematic Theology and Africana Studies at Yale Divinity School. His work bridges theology, race studies, decolonial thought, and environmental ethics. Jennings holds a Ph.D. in Religion and Ethics from Duke University, an M.Div. from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a B.A. from Calvin College. He is an ordained Baptist minister with pastoral experience in North Carolina churches.
His research focuses on dismantling racialized systems through theological frameworks. Major contributions include The Christian Imagination (2010), which redefines race's theological origins, and After Whiteness (2020), exploring belonging beyond racial constructs. His upcoming Reframing the World project rethinks Christian doctrine of creation.
