William W. L. Wong

Dr. William W. L. Wong is an Associate Professor at the School of Pharmacy, University of Waterloo, and holds the CIHR Applied Public Health Chair in HIV and STBBI Research. He is also a member of the Ontario Health Technology Advisory Committee (OHTAC) and a reviewer for CIHR. His research focuses on system-level policy modeling for hepatitis B/C and cardiovascular diseases, pharmacoeconomics, and advanced decision-analytic modeling techniques for health technology assessment.

Education: PhD and MMath in Computer Science (University of Waterloo, 2009 and 2000), Postdoctoral Fellowship in Medical Decision Making (University of Toronto, 2012).

Research Interests: Infectious diseases modeling (hepatitis B/C), health services research, cost-effectiveness analysis, pharmacoinformatics, and drug discovery methodologies. He develops decision models to inform public health policy and evaluate healthcare interventions.

Key Publications: Over 80 peer-reviewed articles, including studies on hepatitis C elimination strategies, cost-effectiveness of antiviral treatments, and CAR T-cell therapy economics. Recent work emphasizes social determinants of health and viral hepatitis control in high-income countries.

Awards: 2023 Excellence in Science Research Award (University of Waterloo) and 2018–2023 Early Researcher Award (Ontario Government).

Teaching: Courses include PHARM 151 (Health Informatics), PHARM 618 (Health Economics & Pharmacoeconomics), and PHARM 401 (Independent Study). Focus on training the next generation of health economics researchers.

Grants & Funding: Supported by NSERC, CIHR, Ontario Ministry of Research, and Canadian Liver Foundation. Projects address hepatitis control, cancer therapies, and health technology assessment.
