William Reynolds is a Professor and former Chairperson of the Department of Psychology at Humboldt State University. He holds affiliations in the Academic Research Master’s Program and the Graduate Program in School Psychology. With a career spanning over four decades, Reynolds has held professorial positions at institutions including the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of British Columbia. His research focuses on depression, suicide prevention, bullying, and assessment methodologies in clinical and school psychology.
Reynolds earned his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley (1973), followed by M.A. (1974) and Ph.D. (1976) in school psychology from the University of Oregon. His academic contributions include over 150 publications, with a focus on depression in children, suicidal ideation, and bullying dynamics. He has developed widely used assessment tools such as the Reynolds Adolescent Depression Scale and the Reynolds Child Depression Scale.
Reynolds’ honors include APA Fellowships (1987) and the APA Senior Scientist Award (2013). He has advised on mental health policies globally and contributed to NIMH projects on youth mental health. His work bridges clinical practice, education, and public health, emphasizing early intervention and systemic prevention strategies.
