William McClure

William McClure, Ph.D., is a Professor and Dean of Faculty in the School of Arts and Humanities at Queens College. Effective July 6, 2023, he will become Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at SUNY New Paltz, leveraging three decades of experience in higher education as a teacher, scholar, and administrator.

McClure is a recognized authority in Japanese language and linguistics, with a focus on curriculum development for multilingual student populations. His administrative achievements at Queens College include creating new academic programs, leading faculty diversity initiatives, and coordinating major institutional partnerships to secure funding.

His career spans academic appointments at Nanzan University (Japan), Palacký University (Czech Republic), University of Durham (England), and Cornell University. As Provost at SUNY New Paltz, he will oversee academic programs across all schools—Business, Education, Fine & Performing Arts, Liberal Arts & Sciences, and Science & Engineering—while ensuring alignment with institutional strategic planning and educational excellence.
