Thomas Nolen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at the State University of New York at New Paltz (SUNY New Paltz), where he has been employed since 1998. He also serves as the Associate Dean of the School of Science and Engineering since 2012, combining academic and administrative roles.
- Education: University of California, Santa Barbara (BA, MA in Biology), Cornell University (PhD in Neurobiology and Behavior), Yale University (NIH Postdoctoral Fellow in Neuroscience).
Nolen’s research focuses on the neural mechanisms of behavior, particularly the neurobiology of cricket acoustic communication, chemical defense in marine mollusks, and neural control of swimming in jellyfish. His teaching interests align with these themes, including Animal Behavior, Neurophysiology, and Evolutionary Theory.
His recent publications span neuroscience, animal communication, and marine neurobiology, reflecting interdisciplinary expertise in neurophysiological and ecological systems.
