Dr. William Grady is a Professor in the Translational Science and Therapeutics Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, with joint appointment in Public Health Sciences. He serves as Medical Director of the GI Cancer Prevention Program and holds the Rodger C. Haggitt Professorship at the University of Washington. His research focuses on molecular biomarkers for gastrointestinal cancer detection and risk assessment.
Research interests include epigenetic alterations in colorectal and esophageal cancers, DNA methylation biomarkers, cellular senescence in tumor microenvironments, and hereditary cancer syndromes. Current studies examine how accelerated epigenetic aging contributes to colon cancer development and validate methylation biomarkers for early cancer detection.
Publications feature novel biomarker panels for esophageal adenocarcinoma detection (2022), characterization of senescent microenvironments (2024), and molecular subtyping of Barrett's esophagus (2019). He leads prospective cohort studies including ColoCare and GLNE007 biomarker validation trials.
Dr. Grady directs a research group investigating epigenetic clocks, tumor microenvironment biology, and translational applications for cancer prevention. He maintains clinical practice specializing in gastrointestinal cancer genetics and prevention.
