Dr. William Jensen is Professor of Biological Sciences at Emporia State University's School of Science and Mathematics, where he also serves as Director of Natural Areas and Biology Graduate Coordinator. His leadership extends to advising the Student Chapter of The Wildlife Society and representing ESU in the Great Plains Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit.
Education:
- Ph.D., Biology, Kansas State University (2003)
- M.S., Biological Sciences, Emporia State University (1999)
- B.S., Fisheries and Wildlife, University of Missouri-Columbia (1996)
Dr. Jensen's research program focuses on population and behavioral ecology of birds and mammals in conservation contexts. His work examines how habitat modifications impact wildlife communities, particularly in grassland ecosystems. The Jensen Lab conducts field-based investigations ranging from avian responses to grazing practices to demographic studies of endangered species.
He advises Master's students on diverse projects including grassland bird ecology, wetland bird migration patterns, bat habitat use, and behavioral adaptations in wildlife. Current and former students have investigated topics such as phenotypic variation in dickcissels, Henslow's Sparrow demography, and mink-muskrat predator-prey dynamics.
As Director of Natural Areas, he oversees conservation lands used for research and education. The Jensen Lab maintains active fieldwork collaborations with institutions including West Texas A&M University and management agencies.
