William James Metcalf

Dr William James Metcalf is an Honorary Associate Professor at the School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry, University of Queensland. His research expertise lies in Australian Cultural and Social History, with specific interests in the history of Australian communes and utopian visions, Brisbane history, and environmental history.
He holds the following educational qualifications:
- Honours degree, University of Guelph, Canada (1967)
- Master's degree (by research), University of Queensland (1976)
- PhD, Griffith University (1987)
Dr Metcalf is currently leading a significant project to collect information on every intentional community in Australia, which has grown to over 700 entries. His scholarly contributions include eleven books, 25 book chapters, seven encyclopaedia articles, and 41 peer-reviewed journal articles.
His research has been recognized with numerous Australian and international awards.
