William Hayes

William Hayes is a Professor at the South Dakota State University (SDSU) College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions. He practices as an ambulatory care pharmacist at Monument Health- Flormann Clinic in Rapid City, specializing in comprehensive medication reviews and managing diverse disease states. His academic roles include serving as Chair of the Faculty Development Committee and Co-Chair of the Accreditation Executive Committee. Hayes holds a Ph.D. from SDSU and completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at the VA Black Hills System Care.

His research interests focus on ambulatory care pharmacy, transitions of care, pain management, geriatrics, metabolic syndrome, and polypharmacy. He has received multiple awards including the Excellence in Research and Scholarly Activity Award (2020-2021), Residency MVP (2016), and Excellence in Teaching Award (2015-2016). Hayes has contributed to peer-reviewed publications addressing topics such as anticonvulsant therapy, antibiotic allergy management, hypertension in elderly patients, and cyclic vomiting syndrome.

His professional memberships include the American College of Clinical Pharmacology and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Hayes has held clinical roles at the VA Black Hills Health Care System and Monument Health since 2010, emphasizing clinical pharmacy practice and patient-centered care.
