William Hanshumaker

William Hanshumaker is an Adjunct Professor with a Courtesy Appointment in the Department of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Sciences at Oregon State University. He is affiliated with Oregon Sea Grant and serves as a Public Marine Education Specialist, focusing on the integration of marine research with public education and outreach initiatives.

His research centers on informal and free-choice learning, particularly in aquarium and museum environments. He specializes in designing interactive exhibits and layered interpretation systems to enhance visitor engagement, learning, and attitudes toward marine science. His dissertation explored the use of Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) tags in aquarium design, bridging technology used in fisheries research with public education.
