William H. Watson, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry (Psychology) and Neurology at the University of Rochester Medical Center. He holds joint appointments in the Department of Psychiatry (Family/Marriage) and the Department of Neurology (Epilepsy). Dr. Watson is senior training faculty with the University of Rochester Institute for the Family, a member of the Physician Faculty Communication Coaching Program, and a consulting psychologist with the Strong Epilepsy Center.
- Education: PhD and MA in Clinical Psychology from Biola University, BA in Psychology from Princeton University
Dr. Watson’s research and practice focus on integrating family systems theory into medical settings, particularly addressing somatoform disorders, emotional development of healthcare providers, and spirituality in psychotherapy. He has pioneered outcome-based assessments for family therapy training and explored group psychotherapy dynamics, including intensive short-term approaches.
His publications span 2015 to 1991, emphasizing family therapy, neuropsychology, and medical psychology. Awards highlight his excellence in teaching and service to family psychology. Dr. Watson is actively involved in training programs and professional societies, including the American Psychological Association and the Rochester Area Society for Group Psychotherapy.
