Professor William Green is a Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management at the Department of Management, Birmingham Business School, University of Birmingham. He joined in July 2022 and currently serves as Head of the Entrepreneurship, Leadership, and Innovation Group and as the Birmingham Business School Impact Lead.
He holds a PhD and BSc in Ergonomics and Human Factors from Loughborough University and a Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning from the University of Leicester.
His research focuses on design, technology and innovation, human factors, and the interface between people, technology, and their environment. Key areas include innovation in SMEs, human error in healthcare (notably the NHS), and the role of new technologies in the creative industries. His work has been funded by Innovate UK, ESRC, Marie Curie, NHS England, and the Wellcome Trust, and has contributed to REF impact cases in 2014 and 2021.
His recent publications span topics such as rural small business social responsibility, women’s technology entrepreneurship, market research ethics, financial algorithms, business model innovation, and healthcare IT. These works reflect a strong interdisciplinary focus combining innovation management, human factors, and social impact.
He previously served as Professor of Technology and Innovation at the University of Leicester School of Business and as Deputy Dean of Research for the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, where he supported REF2021 impact case development.
He has supervised eight doctoral students to completion in technology and innovation management and entrepreneurship.
His industry experience includes roles at Philips Research, Vodafone Global Marketing, and IBM Research as a UX researcher, enriching his academic work with practical insights.
He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors.
