William Goldenberg serves as Distinguished Teaching Professor and Head of Keyboard Studies at Northern Illinois University's School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts. With an extensive international performance career spanning over 1000 concerts worldwide, he brings significant professional experience to his academic role.
His research interests focus on piano performance, chamber music collaboration, contemporary repertoire interpretation, and music education methodologies. Professor Goldenberg has particular expertise in integrating technical mastery with expressive communication, advocating for a holistic approach where body, mind, and feeling work in harmony to create meaningful musical performances.
His performance career has included appearances at prestigious venues such as Tanglewood, Shanghai Concert Hall, and Chicago's Symphony Center, with collaborations featuring musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, and Vermeer Quartet. He has premiered works by notable composers including Pulitzer Prize winner Shulamit Ran and MacArthur Fellow Ralph Shapey.
Professor Goldenberg's scholarly contributions include publications in Clavier magazine and several recordings featuring chamber music collaborations and contemporary works. His educational background includes a Doctor of Music from Indiana University, Master of Music from Juilliard, and Bachelor of Arts in music and mathematics from Oberlin College.
