William E. Harris is a Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at McMaster University. He holds the title of Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (FRSC) and has held a Killam Research Fellowship. His research focuses on giant elliptical galaxies, stellar populations, and globular clusters, utilizing data from major observatories including the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescopes.
Education: B.Sc. (Mathematics, University of Alberta), Ph.D. (Astronomy, University of Toronto). Postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University. Academic leaves at Royal Observatory (Edinburgh), Herzberg Institute of Astrophysics (Victoria), Kitt Peak National Observatory (Arizona), and ANU (Australia).
Professional Contributions: President of Canadian Astronomical Society (CASCA), Board Chair of Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT), NSERC grant panel member, and Hubble Space Telescope time allocation committee. Co-authored the 2010 Long Range Plan for Canadian Astronomy.
