Dr. William E. Gillis serves as Professor and Chair of the Management Department at the Mitchell College of Business, University of South Alabama, while also holding the position of Associate Dean. His responsibilities span PhD, MBA, and undergraduate programs, including leadership roles in the Health Care Leadership certificate program, USA Medical Center's Leadership Development Academy, ELEVATE program, Bedsole Leadership, and Airbus Management Institute.
His academic credentials include:
- Ph.D. in Business Administration (Strategic Management), Florida State University
- MBA, University of West Florida
- M.S. in History, United States Air Force Academy
Dr. Gillis's research focuses on franchising (examining both franchisor and franchisee perspectives), healthcare management systems, organizational theory frameworks, dynamic organizational change processes, and structural organizational forms. His scholarly contributions appear in premier journals including Leadership Quarterly, Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and Health Care Management Review.
Prior military service as a U.S. Air Force instructor pilot across three aircraft types and pharmaceutical sales experience with Pfizer, Inc. inform his practical approach to leadership development and organizational studies. He currently teaches the undergraduate capstone course (MGT 485) and PhD seminars in organizational theory and change (MGT 603).
