William D Chey

William D. Chey, MD, is the H. Marvin Pollard Professor of Gastroenterology, Professor of Internal Medicine, and Professor of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Michigan. He serves as Section Head of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Medical School, with a joint appointment in the School of Public Health. Dr. Chey is an active member of the Precision Health Initiative.

Research Focus:
Dr. Chey leads a major clinical research program focused on gastrointestinal disorders. His work spans irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) diagnostics and dietary management, constipation mechanisms, fecal incontinence treatments, GERD therapies, and H. pylori infection eradication. His research integrates nutritional science with clinical gastroenterology, emphasizing practical treatment innovations.
