Professor William Cushley is a faculty member at the University of Glasgow within the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences under the Institute of Molecular Biosciences. He has maintained a leadership role as Assistant Vice-Principal for International (External Relations) and has been actively involved in research related to immunology and molecular biology.
- Role: Assistant Vice-Principal (External Relations)
- Research Focus: Integrin signaling, CD23 protein interactions, Epstein-Barr virus pathogenesis
His research explores integrin-mediated cell signaling in pre-B cell leukemia, focusing on RGD-independent interactions with CD23, and investigates Epstein-Barr virus oncogenesis mechanisms. Key themes include inflammation regulation, immune disease modulation, and cancer cell survival pathways.
Recent publications highlight integrin signaling (avb5) in lymphoid malignancies, EBV's role in lymphomagenesis, and cytokine receptor interactions. These span immunology, biochemistry, and virology disciplines.
Grants include funding from Blood Cancer UK and Leukaemia Research Fund for integrin signaling in ALL. He serves on advisory boards for Medical Research Scotland and Babraham Institute committees.
