William Craige is an Assistant Professor (Teaching) and Deputy Director of Combined Social Sciences at Durham University, affiliated with the Department of Sociology. He has been at Durham since 2006, completing his PhD in Science and Technology Studies (STS) and the sociology of knowledge.
- Current roles: Teaching research methods and design, convening undergraduate modules (Social Research Methods, Research Methods in Action, Dissertation), and co-convening the Combined Social Sciences Dissertation module.
- Past roles: Director of Undergraduate Studies (2018-2023), Director of Education (2023-2025).
His research focuses on the intersection of science and technology with social systems, particularly social scientific knowledge production, informed by Actor-Network Theory. Additional interests include social stratification, identity, health, education, and inequalities. His teaching spans research design, quantitative and qualitative methods, and philosophy of social science.
Publications include collaborative work on university admissions and conference papers addressing telemedicine, healthcare systems, and interdisciplinary methodologies.
