William Cochran is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Wake Forest University and an Affiliate of the Program for Leadership & Character. His work bridges Aristotelian moral education with contemporary debates in technology ethics.
Education:
- PhD in Philosophy from Northwestern University (2020), specializing in Aristotle’s theory of moral education
His research explores how Aristotelian principles can inform ethical leadership in computer science, focusing on the development of virtues in technology professionals and the integration of ethics into technical curricula. He has embedded seven ethics modules into Wake Forest’s CS program, emphasizing practical wisdom and moral agency.
Key trends in his publications include reconciling classical philosophy with modern pedagogy, ethical frameworks for emerging technologies, and interdisciplinary approaches to curriculum design. His work has been disseminated through teaching innovations and scholarly articles.
