William Chaplin

Professor William Chaplin is the Head of School and Professor of Astrophysics at the School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Birmingham. He leads the Solar & Stellar Physics Research group and specializes in asteroseismology and helioseismology to study stellar interiors, exoplanet-hosting stars, and solar dynamics.

His research has yielded over 350 refereed papers (H-index 89) and two books on helioseismology and asteroseismology. He is a recipient of the 2020 Fred Hoyle Medal for revolutionizing stellar interior understanding through NASA's Kepler mission leadership.

Professor Chaplin actively promotes science through outreach programs and the PHYARTUoB initiative, bridging arts and science via collaborations with artists. His work includes groundbreaking discoveries like exoplanet characterization and stellar oscillation analyses.
