William C. French, PhD is an Associate Professor of Theology at Loyola University Chicago. He holds a BA in History from Dickinson College, an MDiv from Harvard University, and a PhD from the University of Chicago. His research focuses on religious ethics, ecological ethics and policy, and the ethics of war and peace. He has published widely on topics such as climate change, ecological security, just war theory, and comparative religious ethics.
Dr. French has contributed op-eds to the Chicago Tribune addressing societal divisions, gun violence, and climate policy. His scholarly works include analyses of ecological theology, peace education, and the moral status of animals. He has presented at conferences including the Peace and Justice Studies Association, the Association of Environmental Studies and Sciences, and the College Theology Society.
He received the Sujack Teaching Award for his pedagogical contributions. His research bridges theological traditions with contemporary issues, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to environmental justice, peacebuilding, and ethical leadership.
