Willett Kempton serves as Professor at the University of Delaware with dual appointments in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment and the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering. He holds an Affiliated Professor position at Danish Technical University and co-founded the Center for Research in Wind where he serves as Associate Director.
His research pioneers clean energy integration systems, specializing in offshore wind power economics, vehicle-to-grid technology, and renewable policy frameworks. Kempton created the foundational concept for using electric vehicles as grid resources, holding four patents for integration technologies while advancing regulatory policies globally. His work includes groundbreaking cost analysis and novel deployment methods for offshore wind infrastructure.
Kempton directs a 12-member research team focused on practical clean energy solutions. His international collaboration with Danish Technical University enables transatlantic research exchange, particularly in wind energy systems. The Center for Research in Wind provides students with hands-on opportunities in renewable technology development and policy analysis, emphasizing real-world implementation of sustainable energy systems.
