Will Yager serves as an Assistant Adjunct Professor of String Bass at the University of Northern Iowa's School of Music, teaching double bass, and holds summer faculty positions at the North Carolina Governor's School West. Previously, he taught at the University of North Alabama and Maryville College.
His educational background includes degrees from the University of Iowa, the University of Tennessee, and Maryville College.
Yager's artistic practice centers on experimental music, improvisation, and jazz, with dedicated focus on expanding double bass repertoire through collaborations with living composers. As a founding member of the soprano/double bass duo LIGAMENT and improvising trio Wombat, he actively premieres new works and engages with contemporary performance practices.
His performance career features notable appearances at Bang on a Can's Long Play Festival, Big Ears Festival, International Society of Bassists Convention, and SEAMUS National Conference. Current projects include LIGAMENT's upcoming album of commissioned works, Wombat's experimental recordings like 'Burnt Ends', and a 2025 piano trio album with Dr. Geoffrey Dean.
Yager co-founded and serves on the board of Bass Players for Black Composers, and maintains active performance schedules including residencies at the University of Iowa Center for New Music, collaborations with the Peabody Institute, and tours with ensembles like SydeBoob Duo.
