Wilhelm Hofmann

Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Hofmann is a Professor of Political Science at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), affiliated with the TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology. His research focuses on political theory (particularly parliamentary theory, utilitarianism, and political communication), political culture, and visual politics. He holds a doctorate from the University of Augsburg (1994) and a habilitation from the same institution (2001). His career includes roles as Acting Professor at TU Ilmenau and the University of Konstanz, and he has been Deputy Chair of Political Science at TUM since 2004.

Education: Studied philosophy, modern German literature, and political science at the Universities of Augsburg, Munich, and Frankfurt/M. Received his doctorate on representative discourses and habilitation on classical utilitarian political thought.

Research emphasizes ideological dimensions of politics, Habermasian theory critiques, and the role of visual media in political communication. Recent publications explore migration politics, museum studies, and deliberative democracy. Consultation hours are held weekly via Zoom/onsite.
