Professor Wilhelm Hofmann holds the Chair of Social and Environmental Psychology at Ruhr University Bochum since 2019. He has previously held academic positions at the University of Cologne (2013–2019), University of Chicago Booth School of Business (assistant professor), and the Faculty for Psychology at University of Würzburg.
- PhD in Psychology from University of Koblenz-Landau
- Bachelor/Master in Psychology and Sociology from University of Trier (1999–2005)
His research focuses on ethical consumption decisions, exploring how structural obstacles can be recognized and altered to enable sustainable behavior. The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded him an Advanced Grant (2025) for this line of inquiry.
