معرفی
Wilfried Weber is a leading academic in synthetic biology and biomaterials, currently serving as Scientific Director of the Leibniz Institute for New Materials (INM) and Professor (W3) for New Materials at Saarland University since 2023. Previously, he was Founding Scientific Director of CIBSS and Full Professor of Synthetic Biology at the University of Freiburg (2009–2023). His career spans roles as a Group Leader at ETH Zurich (2006–2009) and co-founder of BioVersys AG (2008).
- Research Focus: Interdisciplinary work at the intersection of synthetic biology and biomaterials, emphasizing optogenetic tools, CRISPR/Cas integration, and dynamic biohybrid circuits.
- Education: Diplôme d’Ingénieur en Biotechnologie (Strasbourg, 2000), PhD in Biotechnology (ETH Zurich, 2003–2005).
His research interests include:
- Programmable biomaterials with synthetic biological components
- Optogenetic control of cellular processes
- CRISPR/Cas-based diagnostics and therapeutic delivery
- Dynamic gene expression systems with environmental responsiveness
Recent publications highlight trends in biohybrid materials (2024–2025) for RNA detection and transcriptional control, alongside optogenetic receptor activation (2024) and redox biosensors (2023). His work bridges molecular design, material properties, and clinical translation.
As Scientific Director of INM and CIBSS, he leads teams integrating synthetic biology with materials science, driving innovations in adaptive prototissues, therapeutic cell engineering, and noninvasive signaling tools.
