Wil Gafney is an Associate Professor of Hebrew Bible at Brite Divinity School, Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, Texas. As an Episcopal priest and former Army Chaplain, she bridges theological scholarship with practical ministry. Her work emphasizes womanist reinterpretations of biblical texts, racial justice, and innovative pedagogies like hevruta study.
Her research focuses on Womanist Theology, Hebrew Bible exegesis, and decentering racialized power structures in classrooms. She co-edited The Peoples’ Bible and The Peoples’ Companion to the Bible, and authored Womanist Midrash and Daughters of Miriam, exploring women’s roles in ancient Israelite prophecy.
Through contributions to platforms like Working Preacher and Wabash Center blogs, she advocates for embodied teaching, trauma-informed pedagogy, and anti-racist strategies in theological education.
