Wietje Nolte is a junior researcher at the Research Institute of Farm Animal Biology (FBN), affiliated with the Institute of Genome Biology. She is currently pursuing a doctorate, focusing on genomic elements like long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in cattle. Her work examines these RNAs' influence on gene expression and metabolic processes impacting livestock productivity. Post-doctoral, she consults for the Saxon Stud Administration and Horse Breeders Association.
Education:
- Bachelor's in Animal Husbandry from Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands)
- Master of Science in Farm Animal Science from Rostock University
Research Interests: Nolte’s research explores lncRNAs’ roles in bovine biology, particularly their effects on meat and milk production. She employs bioinformatics to analyze genomic data, aiming to uncover functional mechanisms within the 98% of the genome not encoding proteins.
Publications: Her first doctoral paper was published in Frontiers in Genetics (2023), with additional manuscripts nearing completion.
Consulting & Other Roles: She advises on horse management at Saxony’s State Office for Environment, Agriculture, and Geology since 2024. Beyond science, she is a professional artist specializing in equine and wildlife portraits, showcased on www.wietje-nolte.com.
