Wesley Browne is a Full Professor and Chair of Molecular Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Science and Engineering. He leads the Functional Molecular Materials & Catalytic Systems research group at the Stratingh Institute for Chemistry. His work focuses on spectroscopy, electrochemistry, and sustainable catalytic methods for organic oxidation reactions. Key achievements include ERC and NWO grants, and contributions to advanced coating technologies and functional materials. Awards include the KNCW Teaching Prize (2016) and the ERC Starting Grant (2011-2016).
Education:
- PhD in Chemistry (Dublin City University, 2002)
- BSc in Pure & Applied Chemistry (Dublin City University, 1999)
Research Interests:
Combining electrochemistry and spectroscopy to study molecular catalysts and functional materials. Specializes in oxidation catalysis mechanisms, sustainable chemical processes, and novel materials applications. Collaborates with industry on commercialization of findings.
Teaching:
Courses include Spectroscopy, Electrochemical Technology, and Scientific Integrity at the Master's level. Supervises research projects in Physical Methods for Chemical Analysis and Organic Chemistry.
Labs/Teams:
Stratingh Institute for Chemistry research group with international students and postdocs. Partnerships through CBBC and BatteryNL initiatives.
