Werner Sobek is a renowned Professor at the University of Stuttgart since 1994, serving as Principal Investigator at the Institute of Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design (ILEK) and affiliated with the Cluster of Excellence IntCDC. With a career spanning over four decades, he combines structural engineering, architecture, and sustainability in groundbreaking ways, holding licenses in Germany, the U.S., and China.
Research interests span lightweight structures, functionally graded concrete systems, cyber-physical fabrication, and adaptive building skins. His work emphasizes sustainability, as evidenced by projects like Functionally Graded Concrete Building System and the founding of the non nobis Foundation in 2020.
Scientific awards and honors include:
- 2025 Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE)
- 2023 Emil Mörsch Award and Immobilienmanager Lifetime Award
