Walter Haase is a Senior Researcher and Dr.-Ing. at the Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptal Design (ILEK) of the University of Stuttgart. He serves as Head of the "Lightweight Construction and Adaptive Facade" working group and Managing Director of the Collaborative Research Center 1244 "Adaptive Envelopes and Structures for the Built Environment of Tomorrow".
Research Interests: His work focuses on adaptive facades, gradient concrete, textile building envelopes, and energy-efficient lightweight construction. He explores user comfort optimization, load-adaptive systems, and cyber-physical fabrication methods for functionally graded concrete.
Projects: Key projects include "Functionally Graded Concrete Building System" (RP 1-1), "Cyber-Physical Fabrication of Functionally Graded Concrete" (RP 2-1), and the associated project "Exploit4InnoMat".
Academic Background: He earned his Diplom in Aerospace Engineering (1992) with a focus on new technologies and his doctorate (2004) for research on "Adaptive Radiation Transmission of Glazing with Liquid Crystals".
Institute Roles: Since 2005, he has led the "Lightweight Construction and Adaptive Facade" group and managed CRC 1244. From 1996-2005, he served as Lab Director at the Central Laboratory for Structural Engineering at the University of Stuttgart.
