Werner G. Bergen is Emeritus Professor of Animal Sciences at Auburn University, where he established a research program in protein metabolism and muscle biology. His pioneering work examined amino acid utilization, skeletal muscle development, and nutritional regulation of growth in livestock species.
During his active career, he supervised numerous graduate students and published extensively on molecular mechanisms regulating protein turnover. His research informed feed efficiency optimization strategies for cattle and swine production systems.
