Werner Güth is a Professor of Economics at LUISS University Rome (since 2015) and an Emeritus Director at the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods in Bonn (since 2015). Previously, he served as Director of the Strategic Interaction Group at the Max Planck Institute for Research into Economic Systems (2001–2014) and held professorships at the University of Cologne (1977–1986), University of Frankfurt (Main) (1986–1994), and Humboldt University of Berlin (1994–2001).
- Education: Master’s degree (1970), Doctoral Degree (1972), and Habilitation (1976) from the University of Münster.
His research focuses on Experimental Economics, Game and Decision Making, and Behavioral Economics, particularly known for developing the ultimatum game, a seminal paradigm in understanding fairness and negotiation behavior in economic interactions.
Scientific awards include:
- DFG Habilitation Scholarship (1974 – 1976)
He co-initiated the International Max Planck Research School on Adapting Behavior in a Fundamentally Uncertain World (2006–2018) and has contributed to academic leadership through roles at prestigious institutions.
