Vestweber Dietmar

Dietmar Vestweber is a Full Professor of Cell Biology at the Medical Faculty of the University of Münster (WWU) since 1994 and Founding Director of the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine in Münster since 2001. He has held leadership roles at multiple Max Planck Institutes, including the Max Planck Institute for Physiological and Clinical Research (1999–2001) and the Institute for Cell Biology at the Centre for Molecular Biology of Inflammation (1994–2006).

He earned his doctorate in biochemistry from the Universities of Tübingen and Munich (1985) and completed his Habilitation in biochemistry at the University of Basel (1990). His postdoctoral work included research at the University of Basel (1987–1989) and the Friedrich Miescher Laboratory (1986).

His research focuses on

• Leukocyte trafficking in immune surveillance and inflammation
• Molecular mechanisms controlling endothelial cell contacts and blood vessel formation

He has received prestigious awards such as the Leibniz Prize (1998) and EMBO membership (2009). His leadership includes directing major research institutes, fostering interdisciplinary projects in molecular biomedicine and inflammation biology.
