Dr. Wendy Harris is an Associate Professor in Biosciences at Swansea University, specializing in ecology and entomology. She serves as Head of Zoology and leads the Level 5 Zoology field course. Her expertise includes ecological roles of insects, conservation strategies, and science communication. Currently coordinates the Tropical Ecology and Conservation field trip to Borneo and contributes to Professional Skills in Conservation courses.
Her research focuses on plant-insect interactions, ecological monitoring, and citizen science outreach. She has secured grants including the UKRI Public Engagement project with Oriel Science (2021) and Welsh Government Resilient Ecosystems Fund (2014). Active in academic governance roles such as Programme Director and Athena SWAN committee member since 2015.
Public engagement includes leading events like the Swansea Science Festival exhibits on insect biodiversity and forensic science. Supervises multiple postgraduate research projects exploring topics from woodland restoration to insect community dynamics.
