Dr. Daniel Thornham is a Lecturer in Zoology and Exams Officer at the School of Environmental and Natural Sciences, Bangor University. Previously, he held roles including Lecturer in Ecology at the University of South Wales, Lecturer in Animal Biology at the University of Worcester, and Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Cambridge. He earned a PhD in Zoology from the University of Edinburgh and a BSc (Hons) in Zoology from the University of Glasgow.
His research focuses on interactions between insects and plant-held water bodies (phytotelmata), examining nutrient flow in ecosystems and insect-scale biomechanics. He emphasizes how physical forces shape evolutionary history and ecological communities. Teaching spans seven modules, including Bioscience Skills and Field Courses, with a focus on tropical rainforest ecology.
Dr. Thornham coordinates international student placements and supervises ~10 student projects annually on invertebrate biomechanics and ecology. His fieldwork includes expeditions in Borneo and Trinidad, contributing to discoveries in tropical biodiversity.
